Awareness Acceptance Choice - Feel them all

Apr 01, 2026

Most of us don’t get overwhelmed by what happens.

We get overwhelmed by how fast we leave ourselves when it happens.

A comment.
A tone.
A moment that feels off.

And suddenly we’re reacting.
Fixing. Defending. Shutting down.
Or trying to make it all go away.

I’ve spent the last 40 years watching this—
in myself, and in the people I work with.

And what I’ve found is that the shift doesn’t come from trying to control the situation.

It comes from something much simpler.

In Turn Stress Into Bliss, I talk about three of the core branches:

Awareness.
Acceptance.
Choice.

But these aren’t concepts to think about.

They’re something you feel.

Awareness
Can you notice what’s happening in your body right now?
Maybe there’s tightening. Holding. A subtle pull to move away.

Not the story.
Not what the other person said.
Just what’s happening in you.

Acceptance
Can you let that be there… even for a few seconds?
Without trying to fix it, change it, or make it go away?

This is often the hardest part.
Because everything in us wants to move out of discomfort as quickly as possible.

But when you stay—even briefly—
something begins to settle.

Choice
And from that place—
still connected to yourself—
what wants to happen next?

Not the automatic reaction.
Not the привычка.

But a response that comes from being with yourself first.

Most of us skip Awareness and Acceptance
and go straight to reaction.

That’s where we lose ourselves.
And often, where things escalate.

But when you slow it down—even just a little—
everything changes.

You’re still in the same moment.
But you’re not caught in it.
